The Faculty regards as its spiritual predecessor the Practical Industrial School founded by Sámuel Tessedik in Szarvas in 1780. Training agricultural specialists has been uninterruptedly carried out at the faculty since 1927. Between 1927-1945 Secondary Farming Educational Institute, from 1945 to 1950 Agricultural Secondary School, then to 1960 Secondary, from 1961 Post-secondary Agricultural Polytechnic, between 1970-1999 College Faculty of the Debrecen University of Agriculture, from January 1st, 2000 Agricultural Water- and Environment Management College Faculty of the Tessedik Sámuel College.
Contents of the training has always been adjusted to the demands of the society. The highly qualified teaching staff supplied the students with profound practical knowledge particularly in the field of irrigated farming and amelioration.
Nowadays special emphasis has been placed on training environment management engineers including waste management engineers. Developing up-to-date approaches appears more and more inevitable also in agricultural production. Presentation and wide range distribution of environment friendly processes to the benefit of nature conservation have got a more and more increasing role in training students.
Training of agricultural engineers specialised in environment management is performed in 8 semesters for regular students. Training of amelioration and plant production engineers lasts 6 semesters for regular students, while a reading course means a 8-semester training both for environment management and plant production engineers.
Post-secondary training of waste management technologists lasts 4 semesters for regular students.
Postgraduate reading courses in fishery, plant protection, agricultural environment management, settlement management and seed production are carried out in a 4-semester period.
